Amy Anderson is proud to say she is an overachiever. She likes a challenge and enjoys doing her best at everything she does, including golf. "Golf is a sport where it is hard to reach perfection," she said. "There is always more to improve on, which is what keeps me coming back."

Growing up on a course in Oxbow, N.D., she doesn't remember a time when she didn't golf. Because of her success and dedication to the game, Anderson was selected as the Summit League Female Athlete of the Month for August and September. She is a first-year student at NDSU majoring in accounting.  

Anderson was surprised and honored to receive such an important award because she was chosen among Summit League female athletes from all women's sports that are currently being played. Facing athletes from the Big 12 conference, she says she has seen some excellent competition. Having only played for two months, Anderson won her first three collegiate tournaments, broke three school records and shot par or better in five of her six rounds.

In her first outing on Sept. 11, she tied the school 18-hole record with a 1-under-par 71 to win the Concordia Cobber Open by nine shots. At the Nebraska Chip-N Club Invitational on Sept 14-15, Anderson broke the school record with a 3-under 69s in the first and third rounds. She shattered NDSU's 54-hole tournament record by 13 strokes and led the Bison to their second best 54-hole team score in program history. Anderson also broke the school's 36-hole tournament record by three shots to win the Northern Arizona Mountain Shootout on Sept 21-22. She tied the school 18-hole record, broke the school record with a 3-under 69s and broke the school record for 36-hole tournament score by three shots. She had a 70.8 average and defeated 176 competitors in three events.

NDSU recruited Anderson to play for the golf team last year. Along with getting used to the college routine, she is an active member with her church. "Between golf, school and church activities, I am pretty busy," she said. "I am really liking my first year. I am meeting a lot of people."

Already looking into the master's of accountancy program at NDSU, Anderson hopes to eventually reach the level of certified public accountant. She also aspires to turn pro and make it to the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

Anderson will wrap up the season with the Wichita State Shocker Invitational Oct. 19-20 in Newton, Kan., at Sand Creek Station. Already making goals for next season, she hopes to improve her short game and reach the NCAA Championship.
