Agricultural economist shares knowledge at home and abroad

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Who: William Wilson has been recognized as one of the top 10 agricultural economists by AgWeek, a weekly agricultural industry newspaper in North Dakota. He joined NDSU in 1980, and has been a professor at North Dakota State University in Agribusiness and Applied Economics with periodic sabbaticals at Stanford University.

  • What he's working on: His focus is on agricultural and industrial marketing, procurement, transportation and logistics, and international marketing. He teaches classes in commodity trading, risk and agribusiness strategy at NDSU. "Everything I do relates to risk and strategy in the field of agriculture," Wilson said. "I teach, research and consult on the subject and it is pervasive and particularly important for the business of agriculture.

    As the co-director of the Center of Excellence in AgBiotechnology at NDSU, he works with industry and researchers to increase commercialization of agbiotechnology to crops grown in North Dakota. He has published extensively on topics related to agBiotechnolgy and works routinely with industry and organizations in the field.
  • Well traveled: Wilson has teaching and consulting projects that require international travel. Recently, he's been to Russia, Australia, Mexico, Argentina, Germany and France.
  • Over the years: He has received numerous grants, written many journal articles, a book, and hundreds of miscellaneous publications as an expert in his field. He also received the Eugene R. Dahl Excellence in Research Award and Henry Schapper Fellowship and has given presentations, internationally and regionally, to a multitude of groups and organizations on topics of agribusiness and applied economics.
  • In his spare time: Depending on the season, he spends nearly all his free time snowboarding or sail boat racing.
