NDSU arts, humanities and social sciences faculty earn promotions

Several faculty from the North Dakota State University College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences recently received promotions or tenure.

Carol A. Archbold was promoted to associate professor of criminal justice with tenure. She has had several manuscripts published in academic journals and recently began a new research project, which focuses on how police officers process rape and sexual assault cases. She came to NDSU in 2005.

Ross F. Collins was promoted to full professor of communication. He is writing a book about children during World Wars I and II. He also is editing a textbook about editing. He came to NDSU in 1993.

Linda Lizut Helstern was promoted to associate professor of English with tenure. She recently served as editor of a special issue of the journal Southwestern American Literature and had two articles published in academic journals. She came to NDSU in 2004.

Bob Jones was promoted to full professor of voice. He has maintained an active career as a performer and lecturer of 19th and 20th century solo vocal music at regional, national and international levels. He came to NDSU in 2001.

Jim Norris was promoted to full professor of history. He is working on the development of a global history of sugar cultivation and has also created a new course on world history since 1500. He came to NDSU in 1997.

Rooth Varland was promoted to associate professor of theatre with tenure. She recently created costume designs for Gustav Holst's "Savitiri," which was directed by Tara Fairclothe in Houston in spring 2009. She also created costume designs for "West Side Story," presented by NDSU's Little Country Theatre in February 2009. She came to NDSU in 2000.
