Seminar planned to honor English lecturer and poet Martinson

The late David Martinson, longtime English lecturer and poet at NDSU, will be commemorated at an English Department Cosgrove Seminar titled, “Poetry in View: Commemorating the Verbal-Visual Art of David Martinson,” on Thursday, March 10, at the Spirit Room in downtown Fargo.

In addition to his wholly written work, Martinson produced many broadsides, chapbooks, eclectic word-image creations and an occasional journal called Aluminum Canoe. Friends, family, colleagues and former students will read and share some of the works.

The event is part of a three-day, inaugural David Martinson Broadside Workshop developed by colleagues in the visual arts and English departments. Stephen Frech, visiting poet and founder of Oneiros Press, will be on hand to read, reminisce and chat about the art of poetry on display.

Martinson died May 9, 2010.
