Northern Crops Institute hosts professionals from 20 countries

A total of 30 professionals from across the globe gathered at The Northern Crops Institute for its annual Grain Procurement Management for Importers Course. The institute is located on the NDSU campus.

The eight-day course ran from Sept 9-18. It began in Fargo, with additional stops in both Duluth and Minneapolis. Participants of the course were educated on how the U.S. grain handling system functions, and how to successfully purchase high quality grains from the U.S.

Course participants took part in a variety of activities, including electronic trading game exercises at NDSU’s Barry Hall, meetings with professionals in the grain trading industry, lectures with experts on U.S. grains, as well as tours of farms, a grain elevator and an export grain terminal. The graduation dinner was held at the NDSU Alumni Center.

Program manager Brian Sorenson said, “one of our hopes for this course was to educate people from across the world about U.S. grown wheat and feed grain, to show them first-hand how extraordinary the quality is, and I think that is something we achieved.”

The course was supported by the U.S. Grains Council and U.S. Wheat Associates.
