Incoming, current students urged to apply for scholarships

NDSU’s Academic Scholarship Application form is now open for incoming and current students. Incoming freshmen can apply until Feb. 1, while the deadline for current students is March 1. Students in the College of Health Professions apply in late spring.

“The scholarship application itself requires the student to complete only nine questions, as all academic information is downloaded into the student’s scholarship application,” said Jeffrey Jacobs, director of financial aid and scholarships. “Almost all academic and non-academic departments use the NDSU Academic Scholarship Application in selecting their recipients so there is only one application the student needs to complete for all scholarship availability.”

Jacobs urges students to complete the NDSU Academic Scholarship Application each year as well as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as FAFSA, before the priority deadline dates to maximize their chances for scholarship eligibility.

If students have questions, there is a contact listed on the scholarship webpage or they can visit One Stop in the Memorial Union.

“The NDSU Academic Scholarship program is designed to automatically match many scholarships with the student’s academic and non-academic profile so the student only needs to complete the general scholarship application to be matched with numerous scholarship opportunities,” Jacobs said. “However, there may be follow-up questions, essays or letters of recommendation required for certain scholarships that will be recommended to the student that requires additional follow-up. The recommended scholarships may or may not specifically match the student’s profile so they will need to review those to determine whether or not to apply for those particular scholarships.”

Jacobs added that students should allow at least two weeks prior to any posted deadline to complete the scholarship application, as waiting until the last minute could prevent the items from getting completed.

Students also can view and apply for scholarships that are outside of NDSU by clicking on “External” under the Opportunities tab of the scholarship webpage.
