Danielle Bollman is a family and consumer sciences teacher who is pursuing an online master’s degree in family and consumer sciences education. With a bachelor’s degree in psychology, she chose NDSU’s program because it leads to teaching licensure and can be earned while working full time.

The program is offered through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance. All courses are offered online by faculty at several different universities.

“The professors really humanize my online learning experience,” Bollman said. “They understand that I’m raising a family and holding down a full-time job all while earning the degree.”

Student teaching is included in the program, along with curriculum design and content-focused courses. Students gain practical knowledge in areas such as food science, human development, textiles and personal and family finance.

“With a shortage of FACS teachers across the nation, this degree will help keep those programs up and running by filling that need,” Bollman said.
