Softball player named Senior CLASS Award candidate

NDSU shortstop Montana DeCamp is one of 30 NCAA women's softball student-athletes selected as a candidate for the 2020 Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact in their communities.

DeCamp, a senior from Indianola, Iowa, maintains a 3.998 GPA as an elementary education major. She is the president of NDSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Council. DeCamp has volunteered for numerous service events in the Fargo-Moorhead area. As part of a class project, she wrote a book entitled, “If I Could Change Math.”DeCamp is a four-year starter and two-time all-Summit League first team performer.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to a field of 10 finalists late this season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one honoree. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2020 Women's College World Series.
