NDSU Opera Theatre to present ‘Die Fledermaus’

NDSU Opera Theatre is scheduled to present “Die Fledermaus” (The Bat), Johann Strauss’s timeless comedic romp featuring music, costumes and powerful voices.

Set in 19th century Vienna, the story revolves around a practical joke instigated by Dr. Falke, Vienna’s favorite party-master, as a mock revenge on his friend Gabriel von Eisenstein. Once Falke manages to get his friends to a masquerade ball – all of them in brilliant disguises – both Falke and audiences alike will be entertained as characters deceive and cavort to the unfolding plot, while Strauss’s timeless melodies weave their magical spell.

To discover the importance opera has on the lives of cast members, NDSU Opera Theatre created a series of videos titled “What Opera Means To Me.” Each video, released weekly through April, feature a student discussing the influence opera has had throughout his or her life. View the videos at www.YouTube.com/NDSUFineArts.

“Die Fledermaus” will run May 6 at 7:30 p.m. and May 8 at 2 p.m. at the NDSU Festival Concert Hall in the Reineke Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at www.ndsu.edu/finearts or by calling 1-7969.
