“Stringing Rosaries: The History, the Unforgivable, and the Healing of Northern Plains American Indian Boarding School Survivors,” published by NDSU Press, is a finalist for the 2020 Stubbendieck Great Plains Distinguished Book Prize. The book, by Denise K. Lajimodiere, is one of three finalists for the honor, which is awarded by the Center for Great Plains Studies at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

Lajimodiere is a retired NDSU associate professor of educational leadership. Her book is in competition with books published by Verso Press and Yale University Press.

"I am head-over-heels happy with this announcement,” said NDSU Press publisher Suzzanne Kelley. “Our author and our publication have earned top-tier recognition as a finalist for this prestigious award. ‘Stringing Rosaries’ stands shoulder-to-shoulder in good company."

Only first-edition, full-length, nonfiction books published and copyrighted in 2019 were eligible for the award. Nominations were made by publishers or authors.

The prize includes a $10,000 cash award and the winner is invited to the center to deliver a public lecture. The winner will be announced this spring.

It was earlier announced that Lajimodiere’s book also is a finalist in the 22nd annual Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards. Honorees for that award are scheduled to be selected on June 17.
