NDSU softball student-athletes receive academic honors

NDSU placed three student-athletes – shortstop Montana DeCamp, third baseman Sam Koehn and pitcher Paige Vargas – on the Summit League All-Academic Softball team announced May 27 by the league office. DeCamp was selected for the second straight season.

DeCamp, a senior from Indianola, Iowa, has a 3.99 GPA majoring in elementary education, finished the abbreviated season with a .286 batting average with one home run and five RBI. She advanced to the round of 30 for the NCAA Senior CLASS Award.

Koehn, a junior from Altoona, Iowa, has a 3.94 GPA major in sport management, was hitting .290 while starting 22 of 23 games.

Vargas, a sophomore from Mission Viejo, California has a 3.81 GPA in exercise science, had a 4-9 record with one save, one shutout and 3.94 earned run average. She was recognized as a “Summit League Player to Watch” entering the 2020 season after picking up Summit League tournament MVP and second team all-league honors as a freshman.

To be eligible for The Summit League Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 and completed at least one full academic year at the current institution. Due to the cancellation of the 2020 softball season, selections were made based on career athletic accomplishments.
