Alison Graham Bertolini, associate professor of English at NDSU, was quoted in the Washington Post newspaper for her expertise in Southern women's writing.

In the Aug. 5 article, Bertolini commented on the legacy of Southern fiction writer Shirley Ann Grau, who died Aug. 3 at age 91.

Bertolini studies authors such as Grau, Zora Neale Hurston, Eudora Welty, Carson McCullers and Toni Morrison.

Bertolini earned her master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania, and her doctorate in English literature from Louisiana State University. Her first book, “Vigilante Women in Contemporary American Fiction,” was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2011.
