NDSU names director of Financial Aid and Scholarships

Matthew Sanchez has been named director of NDSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Sanchez comes to NDSU from Florida Southwestern State College, Fort Myers, Florida, where he was director of financial aid.

“Dr. Sanchez has a wealth of experience in the financial aid profession, with leadership roles at many types of institutions including public and private colleges and universities, community colleges and a university system,” said Laura Oster-Aaland, vice provost for student affairs and enrolment management. “His team-orientated and collaborative approach to leadership will be an asset to NDSU and the Financial Aid and Scholarships office. I am excited to welcome Dr. Sanchez to the NDSU community.”

Sanchez has 25 years of experience working in higher education and 22 years working in financial aid administration. He has worked at several institutions, some of which include North Country Community College, Saranac Lake, New York; Christian Brothers University, Memphis, Tennessee; Fitchburg State University, Fitchburg, Massachusetts; College of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas; and the Connecticut community colleges system office, Hartford.

“During my higher education career, I have been fortunate to serve a variety of diverse student populations,” he wrote in his application letter. “I have worked for multiple institutions categorized as Hispanic Serving Institutions. I have also worked for various institutions in the greater Memphis area that served socioeconomically challenged regions of the Mississippi Delta. I take the work that I perform for all student populations seriously and view my higher education role as trying to level the economic playing field for students.”

Sanchez earned his bachelor’s degree at Humphreys University, Stockton, California; his master’s degree in public administration and specialist in community college teaching at Arkansas State University; and his doctorate with a specialization in educational leadership and management at Capella University, Minneapolis.
