‘Bring Back the Magic’ telethon set for Minot area flood relief and recovery

NDSU's radio station, KDSU 91.9, will be a participant in the Prairie Public Broadcasting network’s Monday, Sept. 12, airing of the “Bring Back the Magic” telethon for the Minot Area Community Foundation. The effort aims to raise $1 million to help people affected by flooding in the Minot, N.D., area. Television stations, radio outlets and cable operations across the state plan to carry the event.

NDSU is the license-holder for KDSU radio (91.9 FM), which is a station in the Prairie Public Broadcasting statewide network. NDSU requested and received a waiver from the Federal Communications Commission to air the program.

The broadcast is scheduled for 7 p.m. to midnight from Ann Nicole Nelson Hall in Old Main on the Minot State University campus. In a news release, Ken Kitzman, president of the Minot Area Community Foundation, said, “I have no doubt that the telethon will reach its goals. The focus and generosity of the organizers makes it a sure fire success. And once again, we are humbled in Minot by the time and effort and care so many people continue to show as we work to recover from flooding.”

Proceeds from the telethon will go to the Minot Area Recovery Fund established by the foundation to play an active role in flood relief throughout the greater Minot area, including Ward, Renville, Bottineau and McHenry Counties.

The foundation reports approximately 12,000 people in the Minot area were displaced from their homes, and more than 4,100 homes were affected by the summer flood.

According to the foundation, other local broadcast participants include KXJB-TV, KVLT-TV and KFGO-AM radio. The fundraiser also will be aired by television and radio stations in Minot, Bismarck, Dickinson and Williston.
