NDSU received a $250,000 donation from CHS Inc. for developing the commodity trading room in Richard H. Barry Hall.
“It marks another commitment from a major agricultural marketing company in the training of students at NDSU,” said William Wilson, Distinguished Professor of agribusiness and applied economics. “The contribution will accelerate the development of the Commodity Trading Room and allow it to be more comprehensive.”
Equipped with advanced information sources, trading software and analytical tools, the classroom will be a premier teaching facility for commodity marketing, logistics, trading and risk management.

“NDSU consistently leads the way in providing CHS and the agricultural industry with a reliable source of skilled graduates in a variety of fields such as commodity trading, grain marketing, logistics and risk management,” said Rick Dusek, merchandising manager, North America. “The Commodity Trading Room will provide hands-on, specialized training to further enhance the caliber of students entering the agricultural workforce.”
The Commodity Trading Room will feature 32 work stations with computers and monitors, large market information displays and tickers and software for trading, commodity logistics, risk analysis and forecasting.
“The development of the Commodity Trading Room is a continuation of NDSU’s commitment to providing top-notch training for students preparing to enter careers within the agricultural industry,” said Ken Grafton, dean of NDSU’s College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources.
The Commodity Training Room is planned to open in July 2012.
