NDSU Dining receives national honor

NDSU Dining was recognized with the Best Allergy Innovation for Universities award during MenuTrinfo’s sixth annual Allergy Awards.

The national award recognizes the efforts NDSU Dining makes to ensure students with allergies/dietary needs are provided safe and delicious food. This includes the work done by the West Dining Center team to keep the center tree nut- and peanut-free, and the crew at Clean Eats that provides meals free from the top eight – soon to be nine – allergens. It also includes efforts of dining team members across all units to provide safe options for our students, faculty, staff and guests.

“Stepping onto campus for the first time can be daunting in itself, and finding food that is safe to eat shouldn’t be one more thing our students have to worry about,” said Hannah Prigge, NDSU Dining dietitian. “As we’ve seen more and more students report food allergies and sensitivities, maintaining a safe space for them to eat and socialize is more important now than ever.”

The award helps NDSU stand apart as a leader in allergy/dietary innovation in the region and across the country, and recognizes NDSU Dining’s investment in making allergy-friendly menu items accessible.

“This award highlights the years of effort our staff has put into building delicious and safe recipes for students, faculty and staff with food allergies and sensitivities. It is an honor to be recognized alongside other organizations that are working towards a similar goal,” Prigge said.

NDSU Dining operates three dining centers, four fast-casual concepts and three coffee shops on campus. The NDSU Dining team has more than 30 staff members who are AllerTrain U certified, an on-site training for managing food allergens and gluten sensitivities in a cafeteria setting.
