Tori Rude, NDSU adjunct professor in pharmacy practice, received the 2022 Innovation in Teaching – Large Enrollment Award from the NDSU Office of Teaching and Learning.

Rude received the award for her creativity to gain high levels of student engagement and learning in the classroom. Large enrollment classes consist of 40 or more students. Rude’s innovative teaching included a new way to deliver content. She designed a simulation to introduce first-year pharmacy students to skills used by community pharmacists prior to the students’ summer internship.

Her nomination letter states: “Rude innovated a completely new way of content delivery by designing a simulation to introduce first-year pharmacy students to skills used by community pharmacists during patient interviewing, product selection, and patient education prior to their summer internship. The results of this innovation have been translated to three other schools of pharmacy and has been accepted for publication. NDSU is on the forefront of virtual pharmacy use for student education thanks to her dedication.”

In addition, Rude’s efforts to create and integrate a virtual pharmacy into laboratory curriculum focusing on over-the-counter medication curricular content was accepted at an international conference. The results will be presented by a collaborator in Italy this summer.

Rude earned her PharmD degree from NDSU in 2020.
