Hettinger Research Extension Center annual field tour scheduled

The NDSU Hettinger Research Extension Center annual field tour is set for July 12 at 5 p.m. Mountain time starting at the center’s Agronomy and Range Research Laboratory.

Topics and speakers are:

• Weed management update – Joe Ikley, NDSU Extension weed specialist

• Wheat diseases and seed treatments – Andrew Friskop, NDSU Extension plant pathologist

• Weed-control research conducted at the HREC – Caleb Dalley, center weed scientist

• Spring wheat varieties and breeding program – Andrew Green, NDSU hard red spring wheat breeder

• Barley varieties – Richard Horsley, NDSU barely breeder

• Durum wheat varieties – Elias Elias, NDSU durum wheat breeder

• Information on other variety trials and agronomy research projects at the center, including winter wheat, pulse crops and soybeans – John Rickertsen, center agronomist

Participants will have the opportunity to see trials of several crops being grown at the HREC and be able to talk with Extension specialists and research scientists.

“The tour will give producers information about new varieties, agronomic practices and current crop production issues, along with information on current crop production,” Rickertsen said.

Following the tour is a free supper at the Agronomy and Range Research Lab sponsored by Northern Pulse Growers, Southwest Grain and the Hettinger Chamber of Commerce.

All activities are free of charge.
