NDSU Welcome Week is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 20 through Saturday, Sept. 3. Several events help first-year students create connections and develop a sense of belonging on campus.

NDSU will begin the fall semester with a variety of Welcome Week special events.

Move-In Day is Saturday, Aug. 20, when hundreds of incoming students settle into the NDSU residence halls. Welcome Week is an engaging opportunity for incoming students to create connections and develop a sense of belonging on campus.

“Welcome Week is a great way for new students to get involved when getting to campus for the first time,” said Austin Kurisu, a senior journalism major from Grayslake, Illinois. “There are a ton of events for people to check out. Welcome Week has so many different events for students to take part in and meet new people during their first week of classes.”

There are several events happening during Welcome Week for students to attend. Some activities include:

Group events

Saturday, Aug. 20, through Monday, Aug. 22

Students attend required events with Welcome Week groups. Events include Welcome to the Academy, Group Meetings and NDSUbelong.

Saturday Night Live

Saturday, Aug. 20, 7:45 p.m. to 11 p.m., Memorial Union and surrounding area.

Several hands-on experiences and events.

Tie Dye Tuesday

Tuesday, Aug. 23, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Babbling Brook, west of South Engineering.

Grab a free t-shirt and tie dye it in NDSU colors to show off your Bison Pride.

Memorial Union Open House

Wednesday, Aug. 24, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Memorial Union

The Memorial Union is a hub of activity and a great place to hang out and make connections. Check out the variety of activities throughout the day to learn more about all that the Memorial Union has to offer.

Block party and fireworks

Thursday, Aug 25, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Bolley Drive loop next to West Dining Center

Capture your memories during a night full of fun. Experience snacks, music, activities, connect with NDSU Athletics and community groups, fireworks, and tons of fun. Students won’t want to miss the celebration.

Farm Animal Fun

Friday, Aug. 26, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Shepperd Arena

NDSU has a rich tradition as an agricultural institution, and this is an opportunity to get to know the animals. The schedule includes equine grooming, bottle feeding dairy calves and looking at ultrasounds of pig and sheep.

Student Involvement Expo

Wednesday, Aug. 31, 11 p.m. to 3 p.m., outside of Memorial Union

More than 100 student organizations will be showcased. Find something that interests you by visiting with some of the organizations and have a chance to get a free fanny pack.

“I think the Saturday Night Live event during Welcome Week is a great way to meet new people who are just starting at NDSU,” Kurisu said. “It has a lot of great games for people to take part in.”

Fall semester classes begin Monday, Aug. 22, at 4 p.m. The first full day of classes is Tuesday, Aug. 23.
