Nicholas Bauroth, NDSU professor of political science, was named the department’s inaugural Clouston Family Political Science and Public Policy Faculty Fellow.

With the fellowship, Bauroth plans to conduct research into state and local governance in North Dakota. “Current research on governance in North Dakota is quite limited, leaving most citizens, including politicians, unclear as to how local and state governments truly operate,” Bauroth said.

Among other things, the fellowship will support Bauroth in hiring student researchers to help with data collection and analysis.

“I am happy to be able to support student researchers with this fellowship, as it will give these students an opportunity to really experience what it means to be a political scientist and policy researcher,” he said.

Findings from this research will be submitted for publication and distributed through the Upper Midwest Center on Public Policy.

Bauroth earned his doctorate from Loyola University of Chicago and has taught at NDSU since 2004. His research interests include special districts, economic development, local governance and Fargo politics. He also is managing director of the Upper Midwest Center on Public Policy at NDSU.

The Clouston Family Political Science and Public Policy Faculty Fellowship is supported by NDSU alumnus David Clouston and his wife, Stephanie. David Clouston is a corporate lawyer based in Dallas, Texas with more than 20 years of experience representing businesses in complex securities, business and employment litigation. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and government at NDSU and his juris doctorate from Baylor University. Stephanie Clouston is a lead litigator with Alston and Bird’s Dallas practice and represents clients in major commercial disputes and regulatory and investigate matters.
