Zahid Anwar, NDSU associate professor of cybersecurity and Challey Scholar, was recently featured in two MoneyGeek articles.

He is one of three national experts quoted in “A Guide to Recovering From Identity Theft Credit Card Fraud,” by Kylie Ora Lobell. Some of his suggested steps to prevent credit card fraud and identity theft are:

• Use strong passwords for all online accounts and change them regularly.

• Monitor credit card and bank statements regularly for suspicious activity and use strong passwords and two-factor authentication whenever possible.

• Avoid clicking on links or opening attachments in emails from unknown sources and be aware of phishing scams.

• Be award of your surroundings when using a credit card and ensure that someone doesn’t scan it without your knowledge.

In “PCI Compliance,” by Nathan Paulus, Anwar is one of three experts who answer questions.

“The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard is a security standard designed to ensure that all companies that accept, process, store or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment,” Anwar said in the article. “A group of payment card industry stakeholders, including major credit card companies such as Visa, Mastercard and American Express, developed these standards.”

Anwar’s research focuses on cybersecurity policy and innovative cyber defense. He has written more than 80 publications in peer-reviewed conferences and journals.

He earned his bachelor’s degree at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology, Pakistan; and his master’s degree and doctorate in computer science at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
