Award-winning photographer Zig Jackson's work is now on display at the Memorial Union Gallery.

Photographer Zig Jackson recently installed his Guggenheim-winning photographs at NDSU’s Memorial Union Gallery, located on the second floor of the Memorial Union. The 40 hand-printed photographs will be on display through March 1.

A free reception and talk are scheduled on Wednesday, March 1, starting at 5 p.m. The artist is set to speak about his work at 5:30 p.m.

Jackson is the first Indigenous photographer to win a Guggenheim Award. The Guggenheim Foundation awards fellowships to individuals making their mark in the sciences, humanities and creative arts.

Jackson, whose Native name is Rising Buffalo, is of Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara descent. He was raised on the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota and attended government Indian boarding school systems.

Among the eight series is perhaps Jackson’s best-known work, “Entering Zig’s Indian Reservation.” In the series, the artist uses self-portraits. Jackson’s photographs consider territorial land claims, as well as dialog between the body – his own, of tourists or the bodies of other Indigenous persons – and land, property and signification.
