Men’s track and field athletes earn academic accolades

The NDSU men’s track and field team had four student-athletes voted to The Summit League’s Academic All-League for the 2023 indoor season.

Cullen Curl, Josh Samyn, Zach McGlynn and Jacob Rodin all earned the honor by virtue of their athletic and academic achievements.

Curl, from Bismarck, owns a 3.87 cumulative GPA as a biological sciences major. He was a Summit League champion in the 1,600-meter relay and placed third in the 400 dash at the Summit League meet.

Samyn, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, was a Summit League champion in the distance medley relay and posted a time of 1:53.88 for the indoor 800 this season. A multiple-time Academic All-League selection, he has a 3.93 cumulative GPA with a double major in biological sciences and anthropology.

McGlynn, who is from Stephen, Minnesote, owns a 4.0 cumulative GPA with a major in agricultural economics. He earned All-Summit League in the heptathlon with a third-place finish at the conference meet.

Rodin, of Kenmare, North Dakota, was the Summit League 800 champion and also won 1,600 relay and distance medley relay titles at the conference meet. He was the only man to win three gold medals this season at the Summit League Championships, and ranked No. 35 in the NCAA for the 800 after setting the NDSU school record at 1:47.84. He has a cumulative 4.0 GPA as an agricultural economics and finance double major.

To be eligible for The Summit League Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team’s competitions. The award is voted on by the institutions’ faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors.
