Carin Engler, assistant to the vice provost for student affairs and enrollment management, was awarded the Blue Key National Honor Society’s Doctor of Service Award, one of the most distinguished awards a faculty or staff member can receive at NDSU, on Wednesday, April 26.

Doctor of Service recipients are selected for their concern with maintaining a proper educational environment and their unselfish dedication to NDSU. NDSU’s chapter has been awarding the Doctor of Service Award since 1930.

“I am so honored to have received this award. As I mentioned at the ceremony, I want to acknowledge that I’ve been privileged to be in positions and have supervisors, coworkers and colleagues that allow me to volunteer at NDSU,” Engler said. “I hope to continue to help out as much as I can and try to follow the Blue Key Motto of, ‘Serving I Live.’ It’s very rewarding to support our students.”

Engler was chosen to receive the award for her service to NDSU and the state of North Dakota. Engler is a member of the Food Insecurity Task Force and was instrumental in creating the NDSU Goods for the Herd Food Pantry, Little Free Pantry and Swipe Out Hunger program, all helping to combat food insecurities across campus.

“Blue Key is excited that Carin was selected for the award because she embodies our motto, ‘Serving I Live,’” said Michael Hall, vice president of NDSU’s Blue Key Honor Society and a senior biochemistry and molecular biology student. “Carin is the 93rd recipient of this award, all of whom have made substantial impacts upon campus. Carin proves that though our campus has seen many changes since the inception of the award in 1930, there have always been selfless leaders committed to the betterment of NDSU.”

Engler is also an active member of the NDSU Staff Senate and participates in campus event programming including welcome week, homecoming, student activity events and career fairs. Engler also serves on the Cass Clay Food Commission.
