Commencement speaker: Remember what you learned here

Ian Manock
Ian Manock, a finance student from West Fargo, will give the class representive speech during the 2 p.m. commencement ceremony on Saturday, March 13 at the Fargodome.

Graduating senior Ian Manock will urge classmates to always remember the skills they learned and sharpened at NDSU when he gives the class representative speech during the 2 p.m. commencement ceremony Saturday, May 13, in the Fargodome.

The ceremony will feature the College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources; College of Business; College of Health Professions; and College of Science and Mathematics. Manock will receive his Bachelor of Science degree in finance.

The primary theme of Manock’s speech will be of self-reflection to become a better person each day.

“I want to both remind everyone of the memories they’ve made in college but also to look forward to the things they can and will achieve in the future,” said Manock, from West Fargo. “I want students to acknowledge their hard work and dedication and use it as motivation for the next chapter in their lives.”

Highly active as a student, Manock was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, the NDSU Marksmanship Club, NDSU Writing Club, NDSU Bison Fund, Churchill Hall Government and College of Business Student Advisory Board. He also was a sandbagging volunteer during Fargo-Moorhead flooding, volunteered at Hope Blooms and was a member of the NDSU Move-in Crew.

Manock was an excellent student, earning Dean’s List honors every semester of his college career and accumulating a 4.0 GPA.

“I believe as long as we keep goals in mind and work toward them every day, eventually we can achieve them and create even more lasting memories,” Manock said.

He praises NDSU faculty for being helpful and supportive throughout his time at NDSU.

“My professors have answered all my questions and have given advice on my future career,” Manock said. “Anytime I’m on campus and have a question, faculty and staff are helpful and friendly.”

After graduation, Manock plans to begin a full-time accounting position in the Scheels corporate office in Fargo. He is the son of Craig and Stephanie Manock.

“I have really enjoyed my time at NDSU and am nostalgic for all the great experiences I had,” Manock said. “I am very grateful that I attended NDSU and I am very excited for the next chapter. I think what I have learned here will help me going forward in life and I plan on doing the most with the knowledge I’ve gained and the relationships I’ve created.”
