Commencement speaker: Serve others throughout life

Molly Puhrmann
Molly Puhrmann, a managment communication student from Lakeland, Minnesota, will give the student representative speech during the 10 a.m. commencement on Saturday, May 13 in the Fargodome.

Graduating NDSU senior Molly Puhrmann recognizes that many people provided services during her academic career that allowed her to be successful in and out of the classroom. She’s hoping her classmates will continue to give back to others throughout their lives.

Puhrmann, who will receive her Bachelor of Science in management communication, has been selected as the student representative for the NDSU commencement ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 13, at 10 a.m. in the Fargodome.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will feature the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; College of Engineering; College of Human Sciences and Education; and Interdisciplinary Studies. Puhrmann will tell classmates that giving time, talent or treasure can make a significant impact in a community and service can help people flourish in life.

“My speech is about service,” she said. “I have seen how the university has served its students and the students have served the university during their time here. After we graduate, we must continue to serve in our lives beyond NDSU.”

Puhrmann was active in student government and participated in several organizations during her time at NDSU. She was president of the NDSU Red Cross Club, Director of Recognition and Alumni for the National Residence Hall Honorary, a board member for the Mortar Board Senior Honor Society and American Red Cross Eastern Minnesota and Dakota Region, chair of the NDSU Student Media Board and was a member of Women in Business.

“College graduation marks the end of an era and a significant milestone for me,” said Puhrmann, from Lakeland, Minnesota. “I feel blessed to have been able to complete my degree and gain a plethora of information and skills. As I close the door and open the next, I think it is normal for me to be nervous and excited at the same time. I am ready for the future and I can’t wait for what’s to come.”

Throughout her time at NDSU, she has been an outstanding student, earning Dean’s List honors each semester from fall of 2019 through spring 2023.

“I have enjoyed meeting many wonderful professors and faculty during my time at NDSU,” she said. “I’ve built relationships with them over the past several years and I am grateful for their positive impact on me and many students. NDSU administration and staff are incredibly dedicated to us and committed to helping students achieve their academic, personal and professional goals.”

Puhrmann said she’s slated to conclude an internship at the end of May and plans to move to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area to be closer to family.

She is the daughter of Allison and Michael Puhrmann.
