'Expanding Your Horizons' workshop scheduled

"Expanding Your Horizons," an event intended to encourage young women to investigate professions in mathematics, science, engineering and medical fields, is scheduled for Saturday, April 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the NDSU Bentson-Bunker Fieldhouse.  NDSU will host approximately 400 participants from 52 schools, including a few home schooled participants from North Dakota and Minnesota at the 33rd annual conference.

The event is designed for young women in grades seven through nine. They participate in workshops presented by professionals who volunteer their time. There are 44 workshop opportunities in which faculty and student volunteers from NDSU, Concordia College and Minnesota State University Moorhead, as well as professionals at Sanford, Essentia, the VA Medical Center and other area professionals present the workshops.

During the conference, the young women also have the opportunity to meet and form personal contacts with women working in many fields, some of which are traditionally male occupations. More than 265 volunteers help stage the event, which receives funding and support from a number of local businesses, organizations and educational units.
