NDSU was recognized this spring with 115 other colleges and universities as a Tree Campus USA campus. This is the first year NDSU was recognized as a Tree Campus USA campus. NDSU received the recognition by fulfilling five requirements and sending in an application to the Arbor Day Foundation.

The five requirements of the foundation are formation of a campus tree advisory committee, development of a campus tree care plan, a campus tree program with dedicated annual expenditures, an Arbor Day observance and a service learning project for students. NDSU can continue to be recognized by reapplying each year and having continued student involvement. 

To celebrate the new status, a recognition ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, June 20, at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Union.

Tree Campus USA was created in 2008 to honor college campuses and the leaders of their surrounding communities for promoting healthy urban forestry management and engaging the campus community in environmental stewardship.
