The Compass Program Foundation Brown Bag Seminars has scheduled its fall semester series starting mid-September and ending the first week of December. The seminars focus on a themed topic of interest, which pertain to NDSU students, faculty and staff. Seminars are often planned with other NDSU departments and organizations on campus.
The Brown Bag series is offered during lunch hour, so attendees can bring their lunches in “brown bags” and eat while they listen to a presentation. All seminars will be held in the Memorial Union Arikara room from noon to 1 p.m. unless stated otherwise, and are free and open to the public.

Wednesday, Sept. 19: “The End is Near: The Maya Apocalypse of 2012”
Bradley Benton, history department
An exploration on the ancient Maya civilization, their advanced calendar system and the roots of the doomsday prophecy.
Wednesday, Sept. 26: “Stalking on the College Campus: What Is It and What Can You Do About It?”

Wednesday, Oct. 17: “Facing the Foibles of Gender: Encounters With the Silly Creatures”
Donna Ross, transgender advocate and educator
Ross shares some of her light-hearted, even humorous experiences with gender influences in our society.
Wednesday, October 24: “Absolutely Safe”
A discussion on women and breast implants, with a portion of “Absolutely Safe,” an award-winning video, shown with a brief discussion at the end.
Wednesday, Oct. 31: “We’re in this Together”
Panelists reflect on their experiences sharing in a loved one’s journey to come out.
Wednesday, Nov. 7: “Salute to Service, Sacrifice and Survival”

Guest Speaker: Retired Lt. Col. Barry Bridger, a highly decorated United States Air Force veteranCaptured by the North Vietnamese and imprisoned in 1967 for more than six years, Bridger was one of about 350 Americans held captive at the infamous “Hanoi Hilton” prison, where a fellow prisoner of war included U.S. Sen. John McCain.
