As professor and associate head of animal sciences, Eric Berg typically educates university students in his field. However, he recently had the chance to inspire a younger audience. 

Berg was featured in the article “Meet a Meat Scientist!” in the January 2013 issue of Jr. Animal Scientist. The magazine is offered as part of a Jr. Animal Scientist program membership through the American Society of Animal Science. The program is offered to children ages 5 to 12 who are interested in learning about science and the animal world. 

The article discussed Berg’s education, background with animals and how he became interested in meat science. He also provided some advice to those interested in the field. “Animal science is the best major because it goes into what animals eat and how it affects their physiology,” Berg said. “Animal science offers the chance for students to learn by doing and gain hands-on experience.”
