NDSU is taking part in a food fight for a good cause. As part of the Summit League Food Fight Challenge, participating schools will collect food and/or cash donations at designated basketball games over one week. At the end of the food fight schedule, the school that raises the most food, measured in pounds, will be the winner.

The food fight scheduled for NDSU will begin Monday, Feb. 11, leading up to when the men host Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Bison Sports Arena.

“It is an opportunity for our students, athletes and members of the NDSU community to help those in need,” said John Straka, president of NDSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council. “Our local food banks tell us that demand is up and donations are down due to the economy, so every bit of food helps tremendously.”

“Besides our commitment, we are pleased to announce that we are going to partner with the NDSU Greek Organizations. Together our commitment will make a difference,” Straka said.

NDSU fraternities and sororities are excited to participate in the effort. “The food fight collaboration is a great way for both NDSU Athletics, and Greek Life to give back to a community that is so supportive of both of our organizations," said Shawn Senescall, InterFraternity Council president.

Summit League food bags will be passed out at NDSU basketball games on Feb. 9 and Feb. 14. Participants should then return filled bags on Feb. 16.

Drop boxes will be at the Bison Sports Arena and the Memorial Union throughout the week of Feb. 11. Donations will be delivered to the Alba Bales House on NDSU’s campus.
