NDSU has a series of events planned to celebrate National Public Health Week, which is April 1-7. The week is used to highlight the value of prevention and the importance of well-supported public health systems in preventing disease, saving lives and curbing health care spending.
“Our goal for hosting these activities at NDSU is to raise awareness of public health issues locally and the research and programs we are developing to address these issues specifically through the Master of Public Health program at NDSU,” said Donald Warne, director of NDSU’s Master of Public Health program.
The following events are free and open to the public.
Wednesday, April 3
NDSU Master of Public Health faculty and students will present current research and interests in a public health research seminar. The event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Memorial Union Hidatsa room. Refreshments will be served from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Thursday, April 4
A presentation featuring officials from the North Dakota Department of Health and NDSU’s public health program is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. in the Memorial Union Century Theater. Terry Dwelle, North Dakota state health officer, and Warne will discuss public health in North Dakota, Dwelle’s experience with tropical medicine training and the Master of Public Health degree. Posters also will be available for viewing.
Friday, April 5
A lunch and learn panel discussion is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. in the Memorial Union Hidatsa room. Dietitians and professionals who work with school wellness policies, the new school lunch and competitive food changes and local public health are scheduled to discuss the health changes and connection with public health units in helping keep kids healthy.
