Author to give book reading on North Dakota hiking trails

Author and hiking enthusiast Susan Wefald is scheduled to give a reading of her book, “Spectacular North Dakota Hikes – Bring the Dog,” Monday, April 15, at 4:30 p.m. in the Weber Reading Room of the NDSU Main Library. The Institute for Regional Studies published the book, and a representative will be on hand with books for purchase.

A North Dakota Public Service Commissioner for 16 years, Wefald now enjoys exploring the state on hikes with her husband, Bob, and their three-year-old Goldendoodle, Sandy.

While on the Public Service Commission from 1993 until her retirement in 2009, Wefald supported environmentally responsible energy development in North Dakota, and participated in siting the first wind farms in the state. She was the first woman to serve on the commission.

She now serves on the North Dakota Humanities Council, the AARP State Advisory Council, Board Development Committee of the Dakota Horizons Girl Scout Council and is a violinist in the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony.
