Student research highlighted at NDSU conferences

The first meeting of Undergraduates Inc. was held April 5 and 6 at NDSU. The conference was co-organized by Verena Theile, assistant professor of English, and David Silkenat, assistant professor of history, and English and history faculty from St. Mary's University of Minnesota and Iowa State University.

The event was hosted by the English department’s graduate student organization in conjunction with its 10th annual Red River Graduate Studies Conference.

More than 40 graduate and undergraduate students from 12 different universities participated in the proceedings and more than 70 people attended Kirk St. Amant’s keynote luncheon address.

Thanks to the support of NDSU’s English and history, philosophy and religious studies departments and the dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, three student presentations were recognized with awards: graduate students Bethany Berard of the University of Winnipeg and MK Laughlin of NDSU and undergraduate student Imelda Wistey of Iowa State University.

Graduate students Holly Rust and Tatjana Schell were committee chairs for the Red River Graduate Studies Conference.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
