Assistant men’s basketball coach named

Head men’s basketball coach Saul Phillips announced the hiring of Freddy Coleman as assistant coach for the Bison on Thursday, June 13. Coleman replaces Jason Kemp, who was hired as an assistant coach at Toledo in May.

Coleman was the top assistant at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., the past two years.

“Freddy is a great fit for our program,” Phillips said. “He has always been a team-first guy and his interpersonal skills are outstanding. He has learned a great deal at Concordia the past two years and I really look forward to seeing him apply himself to our situation. There is no question he is the type of person I want my players to learn from.”

Coleman graduated from NDSU with a bachelor’s degree in sport and recreation leadership in May 2011. The 6-foot-3 guard played three seasons at NDSU from 2007-11.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
