Vice provost receives national award

Bilen-Green

Canan Bilen-Green, vice provost for advancement of faculty, has received the Women in Engineering Programs and Advocates Network’s University Change Agent Award. The award was presented during the organization’s national conference in Atlanta, June 19-22.

The University Change Agent Award honors an individual who has had positive impact within their academic institution with regard to the climate for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields, with an emphasis on engineering.

In addition to her role as vice provost, Bilen-Green is the Dale Hogoboom Professor and interim chair of industrial and manufacturing engineering and director of the Advance FORWARD program at NDSU.

“While this award was given to me, the work is not mine alone,” Bilen-Green said. “The commitment and efforts of the FORWARD group and many others to increase participation of women faculty and improve campus climate for everyone have made change possible at NDSU.”

The network’s news release announcing the award noted “Dr. Bilen-Green is tireless in her efforts to help recruit, retain and advance women faculty on NDSU’s campus … This award is presented to Dr. Bilen-Green for her outstanding leadership and efforts resulting in enhanced diversity and positive institutional change.”

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation’s top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
