Director of women's basketball operations named

Tom Bird has been named women's basketball director of operations. Carolyn DeHoff, NDSU head women's basketball coach, made the announcement July 17 and said Bird will join the staff July 29.

Bird served as the assistant video coordinator for the University of Florida women's basketball program last year. Among his duties were organizing film exchange for all-conference opponents and creating a virtual playbook of all practices and games.

"We had a nice pool of candidates with different skill sets for this position,” DeHoff said. “Tom’s time spent last year under Amanda Butler at Florida as their assistant video coordinator sparked the interest of our staff. Through the process of getting to know Tom we were encouraged by the pieces he could bring our staff from both an administration and video coordinating position."

Prior to working at the University of Florida, Bird was the assistant women's basketball coach at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine, in 2010-11. He graduated from Thomas College in May 2012 with a bachelor's degree in sport management.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
