Kate Haugen, associate vice president for student affairs, has announced her retirement, effective Dec. 31. Haugen leads the Division of Student Affairs enrollment management unit. Under her leadership are the departments of Registration and Records, the Office of Admission, Student Financial Services, Bison Connection, Career Center, Orientation and Student Success, TRiO Programs and Enrollment Management Technology Services. 

“Dr. Haugen has provided outstanding leadership to the enrollment management area at NDSU,” said Prakash Mathew, vice president for student affairs. “She is a seasoned professional with high standards and strong credibility. During her 19 years at NDSU, enrollment has grown by more than 4,000 students, and she has done a remarkable job effectively managing these departments during this period of growth. She also has provided leadership on numerous committees including serving on two presidential search committees. Finally, she has been a mentor and role model to many staff members.” 

Mathew added, “NDSU has benefitted in so many ways from the leadership of Dr. Haugen. She has impacted our university and our community in many positive ways.”

In addition to her duties at NDSU, Haugen has been a board member of the North Dakota Humanities Council, the Fargo-Moorhead Area foundation, the Minnesota Women in Higher Education Board, the Plains Art Museum and United Way of Cass-Clay. In 2011, she received the YWCA Cass Clay Women of the Year Lifetime Achievement-Florence Reed Owens Award.

Haugen joined NDSU in 1994 and has served in her current position since 2006.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Luther College, a master’s degree in education from the University of Iowa and a doctorate in higher education from the University of Iowa.
