Earth-kind Hydrangea trial plot tour scheduled

An Earth-kind Hydrangea trial plot tour is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. until noon at Cottonwood Park in Dilworth, Minn.

The tour will be conducted by Todd Weinmann, NDSU Extension Service Cass County horticulturist, and Randy Nelson, University of Minnesota Extension Clay County horticulturist.

The Earth-Kind Environmental Landscape Management System was developed by horticultural specialists at the Texas AgriLife Extension Service in 1993.

“The goal is to have people enjoy beautiful, productive landscapes that only require minimal maintenance, while providing maximum protection for the environment,” Weinmann said. “The system addresses four major horticulture challenges: stewardship of water resources, abuse/misuse of commercial fertilizers, abuse/misuse of pesticides and the need to keep yard wastes in the landscape instead of the landfill. Research has been especially focused on choosing the most adaptable plants for a given region.”

For more information or to request disability accommodations, contact Nelson at 218-299-7338 or toll free at 800-299-5020, or email nels1657@umn.edu.

Cottonwood Park is on the south side of Dilworth near the intersection of Bean Avenue and Prior Street.
