NDSU animal sciences to host educational event

For the fourth year in a row, NDSU’s Department of Animal Sciences is scheduled to host “Moos, Ewes and More” Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the NDSU Equine Center, 5140 19th Ave. N., Fargo.

Participants will have the chance to experience interactive and hands-on agriculture and animal demonstrations, and enjoy BBQ Boot Camp samples and dairy product treats. New activities include the “Ask the Animal Scientist” booth, stick horse races for youngsters, animal detectives and horsemanship demonstrations.

They also will meet animals that call NDSU home, farm managers who care for them, and the faculty and staff who teach and conduct research in the animal sciences department.

“The average American is three-to-four generations removed from the farm, and as urban areas grow and rural areas shrink, there is a tendency for people to forget where their food and fiber come from,” says Erika Berg, assistant professor of animal sciences and co-chair of the event. “The ‘Moos Ewes and More’ event is an effort to reconnect people with livestock and agriculture.”

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
