NDSU hosts International Institute of Beet Research meeting

The NDSU Department of Plant Pathology is scheduled to host the International Institute for Beet Research’s pest and disease working group meeting Sept. 10-13 in Fargo. Researchers from 10 countries, including Austria, Belgium, France, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Sweden and the United States will participate in the meeting.

The meeting will include visits to field research sites, processing plants and cold storage facilities; stops at growers’ fields to observe defoliation and harvesting of sugar beets; visits to Titan machinery and the Tharaldson ethanol plant; and formal presentations.

Researchers will discuss diseases such as Cercospora and Ramularia leaf spots, Rhizoctonia root rot, Fusarium yellows and Rhizomania and give updates on other sugar beet pests such as sugar beet cyst nematode.
