Criminal justice doctoral student to present on women and SWAT membership

Thorvald Dahle, doctoral student in NDSU’s criminal justice graduate program, is scheduled to present his study, “Women and SWAT: An examination of testing processes as a barrier to membership,” at the Midwestern Criminal Justice Association meeting Sept. 28 in Chicago.

Using interviews with SWAT leaders, the study found institutional barriers – specifically entrance requirements – contribute to the lack of women on SWAT teams in the 50 largest police agencies in the United States.

The Midwestern Criminal Justice Association was founded in 1977 with the goal of fostering better communication and collaboration among criminal justice researchers, academics and practitioners within the Midwestern United States and beyond. For more information, visit www.mjca.org.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
