Two Stanford University undergraduate students recently completed a community work-study internship under the direction of Donald Warne, director of NDSU’s Master of Public Health program.

DeAndra McLaughlin, a junior from the Oglala Sioux Tribe in Pine Ridge, S.D., developed a business plan for the Fargo-Moorhead American Indian Health and Wellness Center in collaboration with Donna Grandbois, assistant professor of nursing.

Chaely Kanichy, a senior from the Makah Tribe from Washington state, developed a manuscript on how changing the traditional indigenous food systems have resulted in higher rates of chronic diseases among Northern Plains American Indians in collaboration with Kalidas Shetty, associate vice president for global outreach and professor of plant sciences.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
