A publication produced by NDSU personnel has received national recognition. The American Library Association’s Government Documents Roundtable has selected “Home Lawn Problems and Solutions for North Dakota” as a Notable Government Document of 2012.

The publication is the work of Alan Zuk, assistant professor of plant sciences; Janet Knodel, associate professor of plant pathology and Extension entomologist; and Ronald Smith, professor emeritus of Extension horticulture and turfgrass. Other North Dakota entries receiving recognition included “Spectacular North Dakota Hikes: Bring the Dog” and “Flowers Between the Frosts: How to Grow Great Gardens in Short Seasons,” both published by the Institute for Regional Studies. The entries were judged on extent of lasting value, reference and bibliographic value, contribution to the expansion of knowledge and contribution to the understanding of government processes, function or purview; and contribution to the reader’s quality of life.

The Notable Documents program recognizes excellence in government publishing, identifies resources of distinction and commends individual works of superlative nature. It also advertises the extensive range of material available through government information resources, illuminates the role of documents in society and encourages their use.
