Research Overview: Dr. Collins is a mass media historian. His specialties include the press of Third Republic France (1871-1940), World War I (1914-1918), and United States frontier journalism (1865-1890). Dr. Collins is also interested in the history of photography. He tries to promote research that goes beyond the United States, hoping to help Americans learn more about international journalism history.
Teaching Overview: Dr. Collins has taught a variety of classes at the graduate and undergraduate levels that emphasize theoretical as well as practical aspects of mass communication. Classes he has taught include research methods, U.S. and international journalism history (graduate and undergraduate), journalism ethics, principles of web design, graphic design, editing, photography, and mass media writing at the beginning and advanced levels. He hopes to educate graduates to acquire both high-level practical skills as well as the ethical integrity and credibility required of professional mass media practitioners.
