English Internships
Starting in Spring 2019, juniors and seniors are eligible to earn credit toward an English major or minor with an on-site work placement while enrolled in a weekly seminar. An internship in a for-profit company, non-profit organization, government agency, or on-campus unit will allow you to:
- Gain practical experience
- Explore career options
- Build your professional portfolio
- Connect your academic interests to the world outside the classroom
What counts as an internship?
Any on-site work or volunteer experience of at least 120 total hours, with responsibilities related to writing, analysis, research, and/or project management. English students nationally have pursued internships in fields such as publishing, technical writing, journalism, usability/user experience, literacy volunteering, law, public relations, marketing, and the arts.
What does the course cover?
The course will meet once a week to discuss your experiences and regular reading assignments. It will prepare you to navigate organizational culture, build a portfolio, and connect your skills and interests to a new worksite.
