Scholarships for Undergraduate Students
William Cosgrove Scholarship
A scholarship awarded to an English major. Academic achievement is the primary consideration.
Hal and Alice Dickey Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship given annually to an undergraduate majoring in English with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Financial need is a consideration.
Professor Ralph Engel Scholarship
A scholarship given annually to a student majoring in English who has completed at least 32 credits at NDSU. Academic achievement is the primary consideration.
English Faculty Scholarship
Two or three scholarships awarded to first and second year students (15-45 credits earned). Academic achievement is the primary consideration.
Madeline S. Gittings Scholarships:
The English Department awards two Gittings scholarships each year from the Madeline S. Gittings Endowed Scholarship Fund. One of these scholarships is awarded to a continuing student in the major (sophomore or junior) and one to a continuing graduate student (MA or PhD). The primary criterion for the scholarship is financial need; the criteria for awarding other scholarships are financial need and exemplary progress toward degree completion.
Marjory Archer Haggart Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship given biennially to a sophomore or junior majoring in English.
Gerald Wilson Hunter and Phyllis Krantz Hunter Scholarship
A scholarship given annually to a student majoring in English who has completed at least 32 credits at NDSU. Academic achievement is the primary consideration. Preference given to older-than-average students.
Pamela O'Connor Memorial Scholarship
Faculty nominate and award an outstanding undergraduate writer.
Mart and Lois Vogel Award for Excellence
One or two scholarships given annually to upperclassmen majoring in English. Academic achievement is the primary consideration.
