Our program awards scholarships of up to $9000 per year, for up to four years, to selected Biological Sciences students. In addition, students who receive scholarships are designated as Biological Sciences HERD scholars, and are eligible to participate in academic and career support programs that prepare them for college and career success.

Applications are accepted until all scholarships have been awarded.  We begin awarding scholarships to 1st year and current NDSU students on February 1st, and to transfer students on April 1st.

 

How to Apply

  1. Go to the NDSU Scholarship Portal and sign-in with your NDSU credentials.
  2. Search for and select “NDSU HERD S-STEM Scholarship” and complete the questions and supplemental essays.

 

 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for these scholarships a student must:

  1. Be a citizen of the United States, nationals of the United States (as defined in section 101(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act), aliens admitted as refugees under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence. Please note that Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) individuals are ineligible for support from this solicitation unless they meet the requirements listed in the first sentence of this bullet by the time of application;
  2. Have completed the FAFSA.
  3. Be enrolled at least half-time in a program leading to a baccalaureate degree in Biological Sciences.
  4. Be a student with significant unmet financial need as determined by the FAFSA and the Office of Financial Aid. Unmet financial need is defined as the NDSU Cost of Attendance (COA) minus the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
  5. Have completed less than 60 credits if you are a current or 1st year NDSU student. Have completed less than 75 college credits, if you are a transfer student.
  6. Have a college GPA ≥ 3.0, or be a first-year student without a college GPA. Students without a college GPA will need to demonstrate that they meet one of the following requirements: a high school GPA > 3.0, or an ACT math score of > 22, or a 3-year high school math and science GPA > 3.0)
