Construction Management (2008)
Assistant Project Manager - M.A. Mortenson
What are your primary job responsibilities?
Managing both Construction Schedule as well as Project Financials on day-to-day basis while constructing Wind Turbine farms.
Describe what your day-to-day work life looks like.
A typical day starts with Morning Stretch along with entire jobsite crew; followed by a Plan of the Day meeting to discuss with site management the days activities. Throughout the day, the Project Manager oversees the flow of the project and works to plan the upcoming activities, typically looking days and weeks ahead to ensure there are no issues to deal with. This typically involves 90% of your day spent either at the desk or in meetings, with the remaining time spent driving the project site and keeping up to date on current progress; while interacting with the craft workers.
What is most rewarding about your job?
Seeing a wind turbine get built, knowing you are working in an industry that will be sustainably powering America for years to come.
What is most challenging about your job?
The Wind Industry is very fast paced, and requires you to think on your feet. If this is an industry that interests anyone, I highly recommend starting in it straight out of college. The skills learned, can be taken anywhere in the industry and can help accelerate anyone's career.
