The English Department offers courses that can be grouped under three headings:

The courses, however, are more integrated than this grouping suggests.  All courses will require students to write, to read, and to analyze language closely.  Some courses in all three categories might also include the study of film, popular culture, music, or every-day language use.

Spring 2025 Upper Division English Courses

ENGL 313 Literary Publications - Learn how to create a literary/art journal.

ENGL 323 Creative Writing: Fiction - Learn to create vivid and memorable characters; manage conflict, crisis, and resolution; and build sensory-rich settings.

ENGL 323 Creative Writing: Poetry - Discover what poetry means to you and how it can fit into your life as a vital art form, whether you are a writer of just want to deepen your experience as a reader.

ENGL 335 Multicultural Writers - Focusing on the memoir, this course looks at the longstanding historical and current cultural diversity in our region.

ENGL 476/676 Topics in American Literature: Writing Outside: Race, Gender, and the Environmental Memoir.
